Our destination (goal) is to love like Christ.
Our journey (growth) passes through four stages:
- Those who are Beginning in Christ tend to love with Feeling-Based Love
We are able to grow out of this stage when we start loving as a decision not a feeling.
- Those who are Young in Christ tend to love with Self-Oriented Love
We are able to move out of this stage when we focus more on what we can give to others than what we get from others.
- Those who are Maturing in Christ love with Other-Minded Love

Dying to my own selfish desires and needs and pouring into another is the heart of sacrificial love.
