Reading God’s Word: John18:28-40; Psalm 74:12-23
Advent Reading: Day (13) Luke 2:1-7
Memorizing God’s Word: Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Meditating on God’s Word: Luke 2:9,10,13 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
John18:29 Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
Praying God’s Word: Dear Jesus, what a contrast we see in our Scripture readings today. Right after your birth, angels speak to the shepherds in their language, then a multitude of angels sing and praise God. But at your blasphemy hearing before Pilate the angels are noticeably absent. Thank you for coming to earth, dying for our sins, and rising again so that we might be forgiven of our sins and join you as heirs in heaven. Amen
