Reading God’s Word: Jeremiah 26; Psalm 20

Memorizing God’s Word:  Philippians 4:6-7Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Meditating on God’s Word: Jeremiah 26:23-24They (Judah’s King’s soldiers) brought Uriah out of Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him struck down with a sword and his body thrown into the burial place of the common people. Furthermore, Ahikam son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, and so Jeremiah was not handed over to the people to be put to death.

Praying God’s Word:   Lord, these two verses show that very different outcomes can occur to your faithful followers.  Prophet Uriah was killed.  Prophet Jeremiah is spared for giving the same prophecies.  Lord, take out of my thoughts the idea that by following you I am assured success, lots of money, and a comfortable long life.  Replace materialism with a life of discipleship and trust in Your sovereignty and loving kindness.
