Reading God’s Word: Isaiah 28-29

Advent Reading: Matthew 2:1-6

Memorizing God’s Word: Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,  they will walk and not be faint.

Meditating on God’s Word: Matthew 2:1-2 (LSB) Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”

Praying God’s Word: “Father, when we read the account of the Magi, we often fail to understand the significance of their visit. Here we have a large caravan, probably two or three hundred in all, arrive after a long journey of several months looking for the king of the Jews. Instead of finding Him in the palace, they find him in a small peasant home in Bethlehem. What is amazing, is that this detail did not deter them. Even though the King of the Jews was not what they expected, they fell down and worshiped the young child presenting him with extremely costly gifts fit for a king. Help us, like the Magi, to worship You for who You are, and not for what we expect You to be. Amen.”
