Reading God’s Word: Judges 19; Psalm 146

Memorizing God’s Word: 2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Meditating on God’s Word: Judges 19:30 Everyone who saw it was saying to one another, “Such a thing has never been seen or done, not since the day the Israelites came up out of Egypt. Just imagine! We must do something! So speak up!”

Praying God’s Word: “Lord God, this story is one of the worst found in all the pages of the Bible. Our Psalm today speaks of You upholding the cause of the oppressed and lifting up those bowed down.  How do we reconcile that with the story of this poor woman and the steady storyline in our news cycle of children, women and elderly all being taken advantage of, abused and murdered?!  These horrid examples come because we as a people walk away from You and your Word and do whatever seems right to us.  We also fail to seek You in the midst of this sinful world and keep quiet and do nothing to defend and help those in need.  Father, build in us some holy outrage so that we would rise up and declare we must do something and speak up starting with You and then with other believers making justice and mercy a priority today as your vessels in this dark world – make us Your light, Amen.”
