Reading God’s Word: Jeremiah 2:1-3:5; Psalm 5

Memorizing God’s Word: Isaiah 53:6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Meditating on God’s Word: Jeremiah 2:13 “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

Praying God’s Word: “O God, help us to see the absurdity of Jeremiah’s words, and in them, the absurdity of our sin. Not only did your people leave behind the ever-flowing stream of living water, but they traded it for a dry and barren supply. They left total satisfaction behind, and gained total emptiness instead. And so do we, when we forsake the God we were made for and turn to sin. We’re like senseless sheep, wandering away from water, while dying of thirst. Turn us toward you, Lord Jesus, the only One that can truly satisfy. In your name, amen.”
