Reading God’s Word: Luke 9:51-62; Psalm 135

Memorizing God’s Word: James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Meditating on God’s Word: Luke 9:61-62 “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Praying God’s Word: “Jesus, the hard truth in following you is there can be no “but first.” We try to keep our agendas, our priorities, our comforts, and add Jesus to the mix. But it will never work! Where we fix our eyes is where our feet will follow, and Jesus, we want to follow you! So confront our double-mindedness, remove our indecision, avert our eyes from less worthy pursuits, and set our gaze on you! We throw off everything that hinders, and we fix our eyes on the Author and Perfecter of our faith! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
