Reading God’s Word: Judges 10:6-12:15; Psalm 142

Memorizing God’s Word: 2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Meditating on God’s Word: Judges 11:39-40 “After the two months, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had vowed. And she was a virgin. From this comes the Israelite tradition that each year the young women of Israel go out for four days to commemorate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite.”

Praying God’s Word: “Lord God, this story turns my stomach.  It’s easy to view Jephthah with disgust and think him a fool for making such a rash promise to God, but the truth is that this tragedy was not at all something You ever would require or ask of Israel, this tragedy rested fully on Jephthah not keeping what you truly require before himself and offering to You specifically what you expect from Your Word.  Father, expose me for how I am drifting away from what you require and keep me so attuned to your Word that what I promise you is truly what I know you want.  May I act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with you oh God, Amen.” (Micah 6:8)
