Reading God’s Word: Luke 9:1-9; Psalm 131
Memorizing God’s Word: James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Meditating on God’s Word: Psalm 131 (ESV) O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.”
Praying God’s Word: “Lord, thank you for this Psalm of ascent. Your people would have sung it as they ascended to the temple, but it begins with a call to lower our eyes and submit our hearts. The worship that ascends to your throne must first descend in humility. And in this humility, we find our hope. Like a newborn baby, content in its mother’s arms, our souls can find rest before the throne of our God. Lord, let our cares for today, our anxieties for tomorrow, be humbled before you. And would our hearts find hope in the God who reigns, now and forevermore. Amen!”
