Since Bible times, music has been essential piece of worship in the Church. Throughout Scripture, both in the New and Old Testaments, we read accounts of the people of God using musical worship as a way to praise Him. After the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and escaped from the Egyptians (Exod. 15), they sang a song to the Lord. Throughout the Psalms, the faithful lifted their voices and played instruments in joy and in sorrow as a way to worship God. In Colossians 3:16-17, the Apostle Paul specifically instructs the Colossians to “teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

In the contemporary Church, music is still an essential piece of worship. From hymns lifted up by voices alone to booming speakers and electric guitars, followers of God are still using their instrumental talent and their voices to connect with God today. Modern culture and technology has brought new possibilities to the worship culture of the Church, one of which is the structure of a team of talented musicians leading us into our worship time.

This is the part where you come in. On Saturday, October 1st at 7pm, Church of the Open Door will be hosting worship auditions at our Vermilion Campus. We are looking for talented musicians, vocalists, and  audio/visual techs who have a heart to lead others into meaningful worship at all of our campuses. If you feel you are skilled with your voice, musical instrument, or have an ear for sound or a good knowledge of computers, come on out to our auditions! Have questions or want to sign up? Click HERE.
