What to Expect
Church of the Open Door is a community of people who LOVE GOD with everything we have, LOVE PEOPLE with a love that comes from Jesus and who want to LIVE SURRENDERED to all that God has planned for us as individuals and as a church.
We are one church in multiple locations including Elyria Ohio, Avon Lake Ohio, Vermilion Ohio, Lorain Ohio and an international campus in the Dominican Republic. Our newest campus location.
YOUR FIRST VISIT?
We are excited for your first visit and a chance to meet you! We hope you find each of our campuses welcoming and loving and ready to serve you and your family. Our services are Sunday mornings beginning at 9AM and 11AM at all locations. You are always welcome to visit us at our physical campuses (Locations) or check us out for the first time during our Live Online Service every Sunday to see who we are!
Our Children’s Ministry (infants – 6th graders) areas are easy to find at each campus and checking your kids in is easy on Sunday morning. Learn more about our Children’t Ministry at AdventureWorldKids.com
Our Student Ministry (7th – 12th graders) is every Sunday morning during our 9 AM service in the Student Center at each campus. Each campus also has an evening gathering each week: Elyria Campus students meet on Sunday nights from 6:30-8pm at a family’s home, alternating each month while the Avon Lake and Vermilion Campus students meet on Wednesday night from 6:30-8pm in each campus’ Student Center. No check in necessary and you will always find students or Guest Services in our CrossRoads area before service to help you connect with this ministry. Learn more about student ministry HERE and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with activities!
Our Worship at Open Door is prominently Contemporary Christian with recognition of the powerful traditional hymns which have formed the root of much of contemporary worship. We are a diverse and intergenerational body and all people will find worship at Open Door to be Christ-focused and God Glorifying.
First time Guests are encouraged to visit our Open House Room where you can learn much more about the church and all we have to offer Sunday’s and throughout the week. Many can be surprised walking into a larger church for the first time. But don’t worry, our campuses all feel like small churches with familiar faces and welcoming Guest Services teams to help you.
WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT US?
There is so much we could tell you about Open Door, but the most important thing for you to know is YOU ARE WELCOME HERE. Churches come in all different shapes and sizes, so here’s a few points to help you get a feel for who we are:
- We are an inter-denominational church: Everybody is welcome to attend our church as we focus on biblical truths that unite instead of denominational beliefs that separate.
- We are an evangelical church: We teach the Bible and the historic truths of the Christian faith found in God’s Word.
We are a contemporary church: We are a group of people who enjoy expressing our faith in culture-current ways using contemporary music and multi-media.
We are a loving, accepting church of people who are on the adventure of a lifetime: We are coming to know Christ and growing to become more like Christ.
We are a Christ-centered church: Jesus Christ is the reason we gather, the Savior we worship, the Word we proclaim, the One we love, the motivation of our mission, the example we follow and our coming King we anticipate.
We are a Spirit-led & Spirit-empowered church: We are cooperating with the work of the Holy Spirit in leading people to Christ and helping them become more like Christ.
We are a worshiping church: We love to worship our God and celebrate who He is, what He has done in Christ and what He is doing by His Holy Spirit.
We are a diverse church: While you will find unity of faith centered on Jesus Christ, you will also find a diversity of ethnic groups, races, clothing styles, etc.
We are an intergenerational church: You will find programs and ministries that connect with all ages and interests.
We are a fun-loving, creative, relational church: This is a place where people matter, creativity is encouraged, and joy is contagious.
We are a seeker-sensitive church: We want to help seekers of all kinds to connect with God; seekers far from God and seekers who may know God but want to get closer to Him.
We are a mission-focused church: We are not here to just get together and socialize; we have a clear vision and mission given to us by Jesus Christ.
Our church by-laws outline the mission, vision, beliefs, and organizational practices of our church. You can download and view a copy of our by-laws HERE (requires acrobat)
